one million acts of green.

Okay, so I was on facebook today when I noticed a little advertisement on the side of the screen. It was for "one million acts of green." This website, created by the folks at Cisco, was started to try and get people to make a few small changes in their life for the sake of the environment. It shows that every little act makes a difference, but only if a lot of people do it. The website is here to get the word out; to track exactly what people are doing and how much of an impact each change makes so that there is a visual representation of how much of an effect we are having as a whole.

I encourage everyone to join this, it doesn't take much time or effort. And it will be fun to see just how much we, as a country, can do.

new iamamiwhoami.

Since late January of this year, a person under the alias iamamiwhoami has been releasing a series of strange videos. A total of 9 videos have been released thus far. Six short ones were released throughout the month of February and the 3 longer have been coming out after spans of about a month. I'm not very sure what these videos mean, or what their purpose is, but I have been following since the beginning and they're basically visual orgasms. Insanely creative, complex, and sometimes (always) downright creepy.

The 9th video was released today, and it is probably the creepiest one for me. I don't want to spoil anything, but if you have been following this youtube channel you might be able to tell that this video seems more than a little off. First of all, it lacks the same kind of music previous videos have had. It has neither the hard beats of the first 6 videos, nor is it complex enough to be considered a full song, as I consider the 2 before it. Its a very unsettling, mumbled a cappella that sounds beautiful and makes me feel a little uncomfortable at the same time.

Second, the video itself doesn't focus on visually stimulating images or on the blond woman, but on a man who finds her. Everything about this man made me feel awkward. Idk what it was, but this video did a very good job of making me feel creeped out. It's not as good as ones before it, but still very creative.

If you haven't watched the videos preceding this one, check them all out first here.

Then, once you've seen them all in order, check out the new one:

Paul Martin's.

A fact about me that a few people already know about me is that I do not eat red meat or pork. I haven't for about 7 months now. I want to clear up why I am doing this because recently people having been saying, "Shawn you're so skinny! Why would you not eat meat!" But the thing is, I'm not necessarily changing my eating habits for health reasons. Yes, not eating red meat does help me in avoiding unhealthy foods like fast-food burgers and what-not; and this is a great added bonus, but still not the reason I chose to eat this way. And I'm not doing it to save the animals either. When I go the the Philippines to visit family over the summer I'm going to be killing farm-raised chickens for my meals. So why am I doing this?

The fact is, I am working my way towards Environmental Vegetarianism, a practice based on the idea that animal production, particularly by intensive farming, is unsustainable. You can follow that link to find out more detailed information, but the problem is basically that the amount of water and land needed to produce a pound of beef is significantly greater than the amount needed for a pound of grain or vegetable crops. The amount of water needed for the meat does not only take into account the water the animal drinks, but the water needed to produce the food it eats, as well. We could be using the land used to grow crops that will be eaten by the animals for growing crops for our own consumption. We will be getting more food per acre if we do so.

Of course our agricultural system won't change simply because a few people have become vegetarian. But if the demand for meat decreases enough, major meat companies will get the message and cut back on how many cows or chickens they are raising, which will in turn save us water and land.

I will be attending Santa Clara University in the fall, and once I get there I plan to drop meat all together. I still eat poultry and fish because I thought I would not be able to handle full vegetarianism, but I think I might be able to change my diet for the better without regret now. Fingers crossed.

Also, I have an important announcement to make:

HAPPY BIRTHDAY MOMMY!!!

Yup, my mom turned a year younger today, and to celebrate we went to an awesome restaurant whose menu focuses on food that is (check this out) Organic, Sustainable, and Local. Sustainable farming is the key to our future, and Paul Martin's American Bistro knows this. Follow the link and you can see exactly where all of their food comes from. 80% of the food on their menu was grown and raised in California, not to mention the food selection is off the heezy. Explore the website and see what's on the menu. I ordered a three course meal: organic baby greens salad, Cedar Plank Salmon, and a raspberry creme brulee. It was all soooooo goooood.

You should def check this place out. It was MUY BUENO!!!

OH! And btw, I added a page for some of my friends who take photos. Check out their portfolios. They're all very talented.

First post. The xx + Notorious.

Hi Everyone!

Welcome to the blog of Shawn Anthony Warren. I was really bored after school today, so as all good procrastinators do, I decided to create a blog! I'm going try this out for a few days or weeks or so. If I like it, or you guys like it, I'll keep it up.

Basically, I'm going to blog whatever I want to, whenever I want to. So....yea.

Not much is up on the blog yet, I'll have a few more pages up tomorrow and hopefully add another post.

:::::

Okay, first order of business.

My "go to" band these days is without a doubt The xx. Their self-titled first album, released last year, is beyond amazing. I've been listening to it non-stop for a better part of the year and it is not even kind of becoming stale.

I stumbled upon this mashup the other day, and I fell in looooove at first listen. As my good friend Carlos once said, "u combine biggies flow and lyrics with a sick beat and its gunna be an amazing." And amazing it is; the "sick beat" being the intro to the xx's album.

Give it a listen and hear for yourself:
